Rock Holder for a White, river stone
Woodshop Class
Critic: Sidney Fleisher
Laminated mahogany ribs, joined with shallow lap joints and leather lashing
Concept:
Created to display a white, river stone, the design embodied the symbiotic relationship between the stone’s form and the shape of the river. The ribs represent the flowing water of the river whose shape and path is defined by the rocks which form its bed. Likewise, the ribs only stand when the stone is present. Once the stone is removed; the ribs fall. This displays the rock in a way which retains its natural purpose- to hold the shape of that which contains it.
